A Variety of Options for Contact Lenses

A comprehensive contact lens evaluation is very important because only an eye doctor can properly measure your need for vision correction.  During the examination the doctor can determine which size and what type of contact lens is best for you.  Your prescription for contact lenses requires different information than a prescription for eyeglasses.  A contact lens prescription will include the base curve (BC) which is used to match the curvature of the lens to your eye and the diameter (DIA) is used to match the width of the lens to your eye.

Your first contact lens fitting takes a little longer than a regular eye exam.  Our staff is trained to help you learn how to wear, remove and take care of your contact lenses.  A proper cleaning routine and follow directions for proper wear and care are good for your eyes. We offer a variety of contact lens types suitable for your needs.

Daily Disposable Contacts

Disposable contacts have many benefits to patients, including reduce the risk of infection, eliminate the hassle of cleaning.

Conventional Contacts

These are the standard soft contact lenses.  They require daily cleaning and upkeep and are available in a wider range of sizes and fittings.

Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP)

Rigid Gas Permeable lenses are made out of a durable, hard material unlike the common soft contact lenses.  RGP lenses are generally more resistant to protein & particle buildup and also are known to offer clearer vision than soft lenses.  The downside is they can be uncomfortable to wear for a while, until the eyes become accustomed to wearing hard lenses.

Toric Contact Lenses

Toric contacts have a specially designed curvature for fixing astigmatism.  Toric lenses typically have multiple curvatures in the lens, and can be more challenging & expensive to get fitted for.

Bifocal and Multifocal Contact Lenses

Bifocal contacts benefit people who need a different prescription for distance viewing than they do for reading and other close-up work.  Multifocal lenses refer to lenses in which there are two or more powers.

Colored and Cosmetic Contacts

Colored contacts fix eyesight that a standard contacts would, but they can also alter one’s eye tone, allowing a fully new eye color or just brightening your current eye color.

Orthokeratology Contacts

Ortho-K lenses correct your vision while you are not wearing your contacts.  Otho-K lenses adjust your eye’s shape overnight, and allow for a clear vision during the day while not wearing contacts.  Orthokeratology is a convenient alternative to Lasik procedures.

Patients with Keratoconus

Our Doctors specialize in fitting keratoconus or irregular corneal shape patients.  Keratoconus is a progressive eye disease in which the normally round cornea thins and begins to bulge into a cone-like shape. This cone shape deflects light as it enters the eye on its way to the light-sensitive retina, causing distorted vision.
